Around fifty automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.
Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, sometimes with swastikas, they reported in a release.
Police state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.
The liquid had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.
Officers then found many other marked cars and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police state initial examinations show the substance was likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no clue as to its origin; officials are currently not cognizant of any harm in relation with the occurrence," they added.
Municipal representatives said they were working "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the public for details.
An important representative said the incident left him speechless and had to be solved promptly.
"This incident affects the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the right-wing violent incident half a decade ago," he posted on online, mentioning the death of nine victims by a shooter targeting individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
